 Good sound but bad cord August 12, 2010

The sound quality is overall more than adequate. I use it to listen to Pandora from my phone while cooking. The problem that I had with the item is that it arrived with a bad auxiliary cord. Contacted Amazon, but was told I would have to ship the whole thing back, couldn't replace just the cord. Ended up replacing it at my expense, so that added another $8 to the cost. But other than that, the speaker itself puts out a good sound.

I was looking for a speaker that didn't sound wimpy... and I did not want to spend a bunch of money...after reading many reviews (thank you!) I decided to go with the FiiO S9 Portable Speaker System for MP3 Players (White) it was a great choice. 1st it matches my MacMini, 2nd it sounds great (for it's size!) 3rd just 2 cables (not too unsightly!) and finally - I can just slap some batteries on and take it with me to parties, picnics, whatever, connect it to any MP3 player and have some nice sounding music that won't break the bank!!! Highly recommended!

Good bass response for it's size. I think the highs could be more crisp though. I didn't really like that it was usb powered but I found a good hi-powered dual usb to run the Iphone and unit at the same time for about $15.

I had this speaker on my wish list & ended up just buying it and having my husband wrap it as a Christmas gift for me. Am I ever glad I did! This quickly became my favorite gift of 2009 as we enjoyed it throughout the holidays with music on my Sansa Fuse. The crisp sound of the FIIO S9 speaker system is very enjoyable. I will continue to use it elsewhere in the house, while preparing meals and entertaining.
Positives: The sound quality is very good! Songs are clear and there's no distortion as you increase the volume. We used this speaker for several hours a day for over 12 days with only AA batteries and so far so good (no battery loss). It's about the size of a transistor radio so it would be easy to pack and take on a trip, out to the pool, or set in the middle of a patio table. And it's easy to use to boot!
Negatives: No A/V cord so it runs on either AA batteries or via USB cable to a computer. This isn't a deal-breaker to me but I can see burning through AA batteries fairly quickly.
Bottom line: great little speaker that more than gets the job done. If you're looking for Bose quality sound, this isn't it. But if you want a reasonably priced & good quality speaker that will let you openly enjoy your music on your MP3 player, you should consider the FIIO S9 speaker system.

I have had my FIIO S9 speaker system for over a month and absolutely love it. I am not an audiophile, but recognize and appreciate a quality product. I have owned several different portable mp3 speaker systems over the last few years and this one beats them all once all factors are considered.
First, it sounds wonderful. Crisp and clear with no crackling or distortion at any volume level. I noticed that the sound got progressively better over the course of the first week or so of use. The bass is not super strong, but certainly better than any other portable system I have tried. It is smaller than I thought it would be (a good thing for a portable device) and feels incredibly well made. I use a dual usb port wall charger that I bought for $7 at a local discount department store and have learned that plugging the dual usb cord into just one of the ports delivers enough power to play the speaker system. It also sounds great with 4 AA rechargable batteries. I have been using it now for almost a week on a trip and have not had to recharge/replace the batteries yet. It fills my hotel room with a nice soft but wide ranging sound that my friends with lessor systems envy. I used it once for an impromptu Salsa party on an outdoors patio and it worked wonderfully with everybody marveling at how such good high quality sound came from such a small product. Finally, I just ordered a FIIO E5 headphone amp and will try it with the speaker system to see if I can get a little more out of the bass on this great little system. I will update this review once it arrives and I have tested it.
