Unreliable Clock July 22, 2010 Smileykdf 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This product is not worth one cent - very unreliable clock. My husband bought it for me on 1/1/10 and it has locked up numerous times and the only way to restart it is to unplug it and plug it in again. I'd wake up in the morning to a black screen - no alarm, nothing. The primary purpose of a clock it to keep time and the use of alarms ... and this multiunction gadget can't even do this simple task reliably. I contacted Sony in June and received an update which I installed. No problems until today when the clock read 6:40 a.m. all day. I unplugged it and when I plugged it in again, it wouldn't turn on. I contacted Sony, again, and the only solution is to send it in for repair (my cost) or replace it ($99). I suggested that they just send me another one, but no response concerning that idea. I've had bad luck with Sony products in the past and this was the first purchase of a Sony product in years, thought maybe the quality changed, it didn't. I'm not buying a Sony product again ... poor quality and poor customer service.
I want to sleep more!!!! June 2, 2010 Marcio B. De Azevedo (Brazil) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a recent viewer wrote: hitting the snooze button in the morning brings the brightness back to full brightness - I want to sleep more! WE ALL WANT! SONY PLEASE MAKE SOME FIRMWARE TO MAKE BRIGHTNESS POSSIBLE TO CHANGE WHEN WE WAKE UP. I'll not use my until it be possible to change. I'm tired, want to wake smooth...relax and not with a flashlight in my face!!!!!!! This is the only problem with this product. For those who complain about freeze unit, look for a upgrade firmware in sonystyle site and the problem will finish.
BUT I WAN'T TO WAKE UP WITH NO FLASHLIGHT IN MY FACE SONY, PLEASE HELP US!
Sony needs to work on this one. April 11, 2010 Victoria A. Smith (Orlando, Fl USA) I too was excited to purchase this product because of all of its features and the Sony name behind it. But....now that I own it, I would suggest waiting to purchase it until Sony has a chance to work out the kinks. It locks up frequently and you have to unplug it to reset it. If you are relying on it as your alarm clock, better have a back up!!! The radio sound is amazing and worthy of the Sony name and the volume and clarity is surprising for such a compact model. I just wish Sony hadn't been in such a hurry to rush it out at Christmas time because it is an inferior product that is not reflective of the quality we have learned to expect from Sony.
Avoid the Sony ICF-CL75iP - Terrible March 23, 2010 Paul (Kansas City) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife. The product looks really neat and demo's well in the store, but that is where it ends.
This is an Alarm clock with a digital photo frame and ipod/iphone dock built in. Unfortunately, it's failings are numerous:
1.) As an alarm clock it is a dismal failure. Since Christmas, it has locked up three times (clock goes to a blank screen and you must unplug it to get it to reset) and failed sound at the scheduled time. This is it's primary function and must be 100% reliable or whats the point? Additionally the clock simply hasn't sounded at the scheduled time. Initially I thought user error, but after several instances and other issues, I don't thinks so.
2.) As a digital photo frame it is a very bad implementation. The clock boasts ability to use photos off of an SD card, memory stick or internal memory. Well...kinda... First if you want to have a slideshow with the clock being displayed (most likely as that is its primary function), the photos must be stored on the interanal memory only! The SD card and memory stick are only for viewing or transfering photos in a dedicated slide show with no clock display/function. Photos must be selected individually and transferred to internal memory. Oh...Sony has also thoughtfully included demo photos...which you cannot delete from internal memory or exclude from your slideshow.
3.) iPod / Iphone Dock - is very tempormental often triggering errors while docking. Again, this is basic functionality and should work much better.
At $150 I would stay far far away from this product. My wife and I are both very dissatisfied with it. We have contacted Sony for support to little avail. This may well be my last Sony product of any kind. Seems the innovation that once made this company strong has been far surpased by the likes of Microsoft, LG, Samsung, Cannon and others.
Pretty impressive little box October 23, 2009 D. Baker (South Bay, CA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
First, I don't know why a previous reviewer gave it one star without even having one to review. If you have a problem with a seller, give the seller one star, not the product.
I'd been waiting for this little clock-radio to finally hit the market. Ordered it on Sony's website (Amazon didn't have it till just now), then ended up buying at another retailer because Sony was backordered. Sony's list is $149.95, so anyone selling for more than that is trying to make a buck on the popularity and scarcity.
I've only had it two days, but here's what I know so far.
Pros:
* it DOES get dim enough to sleep - I was worried as other preview reviewers commented on the brightness
* it has nature sounds (which was a criteria for me)
* it is a photo frame viewer, which shows slide shows of your photos
* it wakes you to radio, ipod/iphone, nature sounds, a 10-second recording (funWakeup), music stored on it, or buzzer
* sound is much better than other clock radios I've used
* button interface is good, unlike other clock/radios I've used
* connects easily with my iphone
* has atomic time, so don't have to set the time
* has digital radio - stores preset stations
Cons:
* it's a little hard to get a bunch of photos off a USB stick to internal storage - you have to select each photo individually
* it's a little hard to make all those photos I just copied display as the wallpaper/slide show - you have to select each photo individually
* hitting the snooze button in the morning brings the brightness back to full brightness - I want to sleep more! (I'll have to get used to this)
I'm still learning how to use it, not that it's hard, I just haven't had much time to mess around with it yet. But so far it's been everything I was expecting. Great little photo frame/clock/radio.
