Low end - with annoying random number generator ... March 13, 2010 Good SF books lover I bought it to be used in the gym - it is compact and with the aid of a small utility named "iTuneMyWalkman" can be easily synchronized with playlists in iTunes (Macintosh) - it has a helpful stopwatch. Turned out that the sound quality is poor, the volume is poor, the headphones must be replaced to have a reasonable sound quality, the control is not intuitive, and the buttons are uncomfortable. HOWEVER, once I set it up, I don't need to touch the controls anymore and in the gym I don't mind to lower my expectations from the sound level - and hence the most annoying thing is the shuffle mode - it always starts from the same point. Thus, you can have 1Giga of songs, but you are always going to hear the same 2 hours of music AWAAA. To overcome that I have to forward the songs manually till you get to a song that you didn't hear last time - and as I said, the controls are inconvenient and the buttons are lousy. Next time I am going to pay additional $60 and buy me an iPod.
Lousy battery. Poor quality even at this price. February 17, 2010 Advocate 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
All I wanted was an inexpensive mp3 player to use in the gym. My last one (Zen Nano) broke after I dropped it and I wanted something a little more robust. I assumed that the low price had to do with the lack of bells and whistles on this very basic player but apparently it is a reflection of the quality as well. The battery life is horrendous. It only lasts an hour or two in use and seems to drain over night when the device is turned off. The controls are difficult to use and I was unable to get it out of stopwatch mode with hitting reset. There is definitely a niche in the market for a tough little no frills player but this does not fill it.
Wow this product is great! January 31, 2010 Ryan David Hocking (Colorado Springs, CO) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love my RCA. This will tune radio signals which is great for my gym that has multiple tv's each has its onw radio station for the audio. also has many diffrent arm bands so it will fit you no matter how big or small your arm is! All around great product.
RCA Jet Sport MP3 player January 17, 2010 Dan 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This little music player is tops amongst the field in rugged, personal music players. The method of carry is fasciltated by the two handles molded into each side of unit, which allows for the passage of the elastic nylon straps. This enables the player to be worn around the upper arm, which in my opinion if the superior method of carry when engaging in action sports such as cycling or running. Operation buttons are easily accessible while on the go. Material of construction seems to be well-designed, heavy-duty plastic. Headphones that are provided with unit are the best mini-headphones I've ever tried. Speakers are elongated and fit into the ear, with hooks that are worn behind the ears to help keep the speakers in place. So far I've bought three of these little players, and will buy more soon. RCA/Audiovox, keep making these players just as they are, and don't stop making them!
A TOTAL DISASTER December 30, 2009 Vanessa G (Los Angeles, CA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a piece of junk. I originally bought the S2001 which I wanted so my kid could listen to audio books.. It wouldn't sync to the PC and it seemed as if it was mounting and un-mounting every few seconds. It only would appear as a hard drive basically, and even that was unstable. It supposedly comes "Audible Ready" but I couldn't get my downloaded books to play on it. Windows Media Player can't find the device more than half the time, and when it finally does find it, it can't work with it. I also tried it on my MacBook Pro, but with itunes, it's not compatible, and with the audible books due to DRM, I couldn't work around it using it as a hard drive.
SO... I sent it back to RCA.
I'll give them props that they sent me the upgraded version, the S2002 but it is the same story. It's a hunk of junk that I am going to literally place in the trashcan. Do not waste even the $12 I initially paid for the S2001. It's a total disaster.
